Gerakies is a picturesque village in Nicosia, Cyprus, located 75 km southwest of the city at an altitude of 925 meters in the green valley of Marathasa, near the Kykkos Monastery and Kalopanayiotis. Known for its cobbled streets, traditional stone houses, and cool summer climate, it offers a peaceful retreat from urban life. Once a thriving community with agriculture and mining, Gerakies now has about 100 residents who produce local delicacies like soutzoukos and rose water. Notable sites include the stone-built church of Agios Georgios, the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, and the Ariadni Nature Trail.
Gerakies celebrates annually its harvest festival, a tradition that brings together locals and visitors to enjoy regional produce like grapes, almonds, and the famous local soutzoukos. Our village, known for its picturesque charm and lush landscapes, also offers guided nature walks, showcasing the beauty of the surrounding Marathasa valley. We as community continue to preserve its cultural heritage with events at the local Cultural Center and church services at Agios Georgios Church.
