Nature Trail "Ariadni"
Just outside the village, we meet the nature trail “Ariadni”. This trail circles around the upper part of the village, with an excellent view through the lush green forest, the vineyards and the plantations of fruit trees. Reaching the highest part of the path, we find ourselves in the “Kavalos” area, where we can gaze at the Monastery of Kykkos, the Throni of Panagia and, deep in the horizon, the Pafos and Morphou provinces. This is also the location of the forest house, which is manned during the summer months and used for fire monitoring and fire prevention purposes.
It is a 3.9 km circular path, with a walking time of 1 to 1.5 hours. It starts from the Tree Tops Hotel, just outside the village of Gerakies on the road to Kykkos Monastery. The trail follows an uphill course and passes through a dense forest towards the “Kavallos” fire station, at the highest point of the route (1160 metres). From there the visitor can look out over the Troodos mountain range to the sea of the Gulf of Morphou and from there the visitor can see the Monastery of Kykkos and the beautiful Paphos forest.
From “Kavallos” the path descends towards the village, passing by vineyards, most of which are abandoned due to their unprofitable cultivation. To become circular, the path passes through the village, following the course of the Gerakia-Kykkos road, for about 800 metres. Most of the path is part of an old route used by the villagers to go to their vineyards and to the neighbouring villages of Marathasa and the Monastery of Kykkos.
